My name is Shannon McGurin and I am 23-years old.
I graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2015, with a 2:1 Honours Degree in Multimedia Journalism.
I currently live in the south side of Glasgow with my fiancée and our crazy two-year old son.
I followed a slightly different path from most graduates, and took some well-deserved time off after graduating to spend with my newborn baby. Some say I made it harder for myself in terms of finding a full time job. But, life doesn’t always go to plan and I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.
At present I am juggling being a mum and doing freelance work on the side, but ideally I would love to further myself in a full time role.
I have previously work across a variety of organisations such as Radio Clyde and The Herald. I completed work experience with Stripe Communications, Scottish Catholic Observer and M8 Media.
In August 2014 I also took part in the Press Operations side of things for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. This gave me a great insight into what it’s like being on the other side of the fence, setting up interviews and attending press briefings. Normally it would be me contacting the press officers and going to media conferences. The two-week event in Glasgow was a great experience and was the inspiration behind my Honours dissertation.
Thanks very much for having a look at my website. I do hope you enjoy reading some of my news and opinions pieces, if you would like to find out more just drop me an email or contact me via my blog.
